Kids Learning To Ride Horses

By jewelminer | January 26, 2012

We have places around town that sells swim wear, hockey wear and for various sports around town but not those you need for a kid when they take up horse riding lessons.  There isn’t a horse equipment store nearby and one has to drive 4 hrs to get to the city or may 3.5hrs if you drive really fast.   So when the kid took up horse riding last year - we were left with little choice but to search for the clothing, boots and everything we needed online.

We do have a horse riding ranch but they don’t really carry a lot of things there and had to be ordered online too - so I figured if I were to order them myself - wouldn’t it be cheaper?  So yes, we did just that - search for the horse equipment, riding apparel and also horse tack and found some really good prices for Breeches, Jodhpurs and Jeans for the kids.   Love the riding helmet we bought for both kids, they looked absolutely delightful.

Angry Birds On PC

By jewelminer | November 28, 2011

Angry birds are so popular - I shouldn’t have been too surprise to see them on PC.  The wife wants to get something for her friend’s kid in Australia - so we took a look at books at Fishpond - where you can find books and toys with no charge for delivery.  We found this PC game on fishpond too - and decided to get this since any kids will know how to play this game.  But note that Fishpond may not have a delivery charge - they are quite slow - so if you are looking for a Christmas present - better order now.

Halloween Helmet

By jewelminer | October 25, 2011

While we love our gmax helmets and would never do anything like the above to our helmets - a friend of ours is thinking of doing just that for Halloween with his new girlfriend.  I’ll have to say it’s pretty cool right?  but if I did that to my professional helmet - the wife would probably disown me - for she would say it would frighten the kids - and in some countries it may even be illegal to do that to your helmets - like in Singapore - yes - that’s how strict they are in that country.  But of course, if you wear a gmax helmet in Singapore it’s definitely no problem for it has to be the best fitting helmet one can find in the market.  But like i told the wife - had I been 10 years younger without a kid - I wouldn’t mind doing the paint job on my helmet but not the gmax helmets of course because my gmax already looks awesome.

Laptop Batteries Going Cheap

By jewelminer | October 20, 2011

Those looking for acer batteries now is the time for you to go get them  - because they are dirt cheap.  I always have a back up battery just in case one dies on me - on the road and I have no way to charge up.  But you and I know that laptop batteries are not cheap - so when I saw them going for $19.96 - I had to tell everyone right?  so if you have  a Travel mate - it’s time you get one, check them out at The Source but you must buy online only - pretty awesome deal - so don’t miss it.  With that kind of price i would grab a few and resell it if you have friends that has the same model of laptop.

Diablo III

By jewelminer | October 3, 2011

So I’ve heard rumors that Diablo III is really shipping out next year in 2012 and I  know everyone is waiting for it.  As far as I know - it’s going to sell a lot - but we are not getting any to sell at our store - because the prices at places like Future Store and Staples and even Walmart is definitely going to be less than my cost.

Blizzard claimed that they are only going to release the game when it’s perfect and not almost ready.  Beta tests is still ongoing according to what I understand and it’s looking good thus far. So for those Diablo fans out there - keep your fingers crossed.

Wii U Causes Nintendo Shares To Go Down

By jewelminer | June 10, 2011

So I’ve heard that the unveiling of the Wii U had caused Nintendo a 10% drop of their share - now that was a big hit - if I may say.   But Nintendo’s CEO Satoru Iwata  was adamant that it wasn’t because of the unveiling.   So what does the Wii U do?  besides not having a DVD and blue-Ray playback?  According to what I know - it’s not just a console with a tablet peripheral and it will be available next year I think?  And it is supposed to be all types of gamers - but not many people know the full potential of the Wii U as of yet.  But I hear that the controller is actually the wow factor of the console - with a 6.2″ screen - which can be used to make calls.  But graphics are said to be better for the new Wii U - so we will all wait and see.

Gamers With Gambling Addiction

By jewelminer | May 7, 2011

I use to go out with a group of friends who would bet on just about any sports they watch - from football to baseball and even wrestling.  And the bets are not small ones either - and I don’t know how they can bet their entire paycheck on one game and for someone who gambles this way  - going to a casino is a disaster.  People with a gambling addiction not only hurt themselves financially and emotionally - they hurt the people who loved them and eventually - they may even lose their jobs.  Gambling addiction is the same as a drinking problem or a drug abuse problem - I seriously think that people with any kind of addiction needs help - needs someone to talk to.  Unfortunately, not many in that situation realized that they have an illness - if I do see someone who have any kind of addiction - I would most certainly go talk to them about getting help.  Most people won’t because they think it is not their business - but if you love your friends, your son, your daughter, your sister-in-laws or a co-worker - if you care - talk to them - find help for them.

Special Keepsake For The Special Kid

By jewelminer | March 2, 2011

When my kid was born - a customer who turned into a friend gave her an American silver eagles as a present/token for her birth.   My kid wasn’t even a year old then - but today - we took out the American silver eagles to talk about the coins and do a little bit of history of America.  I really think it is a great gift for any kid and even one that is just going to college.  To me the American silver eagles reminded me to work harder and save enough for the kid’s college fun.   A very thoughtful gift indeed.

Little Big Planet

By jewelminer | January 25, 2011

The kid and the spouse had been playing this game a lot of late - and yes!  it’s a pretty cool game - the kid was all excited telling our customer about it - and the customer was like in his late 50s - it was a funny sight.

When you first start up the game, your only option will be to hit up the main Story mode. The first three levels (which are the same that were featured in the beta, if you played that) serve as good tutorials for how to play the game. In terms of mechanics, this is about as pure and basic a control setup as you can get. The X button jumps, R1 grabs objects, and that’s about it. If you grab a jetpack, you can either shake the controller or tap one of the face buttons to remove it, but that ends your control mechanics (outside of the editor, of course).

While that sounds simple, and it is, it’s the level design that makes the whole Story progression the fantastic experience that it is. The first set of levels is fairly easy and will look familiar to anyone who’s followed the game at all. The cool thing though is that every other level in the game (of which there are more than 20 “main” levels) is completely unique. Each themed area has three main stages, and while those generally use a lot of the same art assets and look very similar, what you’re doing there in each individual area is very different. The jungle areas have you swinging from monkeys, climbing giraffes and riding on buffaloes. The Metropolis stages have you navigate sewers, hop between subway cars and drag race. There’s a wild west set of levels that rely on plenty of explosives and mine cart rides, and every other section is just as varied (if not more so) than these.  Give the game a try with your kids - i’m sure they will enjoy it as much as ours did.
