Of Games & Comics

By jewelminer | August 31, 2010

While jobs are hard to come by these days because of the current economy - i heard that this store up in the city - Halifax is doing pretty well.  I also see a number of fans and ardent followers to this store but we have yet to visit.  A friend who was up in the city doing some interviews for a few sales jobs because he couldn’t find any suitable openings here - told us about this comic store.

As for me - I would take any job regardless - if i was without a job for a long time - but seeing how busy even this small games and comic book store was - made him decide that moving up to the city may be the best thing to do.  Today, someone was in the store - selling off his stuff because he was moving up to Calgary.  I chatted a bit with him - and he too told me he had a hard time finding jobs in this town.  He isn’t the first to leave for a greener pasture - so is it a greener pasture - I’ve yet to see - but moving up to the city cannot be so wrong can it?

Xbox Live Raise Prices

By jewelminer | August 30, 2010

Come 1st November - xbox gamers be prepared to pay more for your live subscription.  From your regular $50 - you will have to pay up to $60 then.  The prices of one- and six-month subscriptions will also increase, as will certain subscription plans in Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

The fee increase comes as “no surprise” to Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich.

“When originally launched in 2002, a Gold subscription cost the same as an AAA video game, ($50)” he said in an email. “When taking into account for inflation… and the additional services available to Gold subscribers in 2010, such as ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm and Video Kinect, a $10 price increase still represents an incredible value to consumers.”

1 Million Calls Through Gmail

By jewelminer | August 28, 2010

I’ve actually read about this on Facebook - when one of my friend was using his gmail to make phone calls to another friend in US.  At first I thought it was thru’ a mic on your computer but I guess there is more to it.  Lord Google will allow calls to home phones and mobile phone directly from Gmail thus is now in competition with Skype and AT & T and Verizon.   I also heard that it was crystal clear - for now Lord Google said free calls to US and Canada but how long after the year is up?  we’ll have to watch and see eh.   Afterall, Lord Google has deep pockets - i wonder who they are going to put out of business now - would be really interesting to watch.

New Color For DSI & Lowering Prices

By jewelminer | August 25, 2010

In early June i read that Nintendo’s DS and DSi will have some new colors this coming September and lowering its prices before the E3 comes out and I was expecting a drop in prices here too.  So I wasn’t surprised to hear that they will be doing the same here too.  So those waiting to get one - should start saving now - $20 less!

The company’s Nintendo DSi will be lowered from $170 to $150 and the DSi XL will go from $190 to $170 starting on September 12, the launch day of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.

The low-end DS Lite hardware will remain at $130, the price point at which it was launched in June 2006.

In July, Nintendo said it lost $289 million in its first fiscal quarter, blaming a strong yen and a decline in demand for Nintendo DS software.

It also said that it would announce the price and launch date of its next-generation handheld, the Nintendo 3DS, on September 29. Today’s announcement would seem to be in anticipation of this next move.

Bling Your Gadgets

By jewelminer | August 22, 2010

What’s with these people and the blinging your gadgets?  from cellphones and now notebook as well - darn !  some people just love the attention eh.   I can understand celebrities wanting to bling their phones and stuff and even celebrity blogger from asia - wendy cheng - blings just about anything - her undies if possible i’m guessing.  And these bling ain’t cheap at all mind you.  And for some - they send their phones to Japan to bling them - crazy much?

But if you are an el cheapo and has lots of time - you can DIY - takes lots of work and lots of glue i heard.  Bling happy if you must - but I’m staying away from it - afterall, the notebook is only for work.  Can you imagine going for a conference at work with a blinged laptop? what would my CEO think of me?

Having said all the above - the blings do look nice here eh ? you might even win a girl’s heart with some bling - bling - but they cost some money.

Egg and Muffin Toaster

By jewelminer | August 19, 2010

Making your mornings way easier - is the aim in my household - because when you have kids to send to school and then rush home and cook - followed by sending lunch to school and then heading for work - you need a quick way to get breakfast done.  No need for taking out the frying pan and all and washing in great length later.  This egg and muffin toaster makes your breakfast in less than 5 mins and not only acts as a toaster and egg cooker but a meat warmer as well.  The wide slots can double up as a muffin toaster and it auto shuts off.   Easy to clean and has a remvable crumb tray and at $29.98 - must buy!   Love this! you will too!

Electric Blanket

By jewelminer | August 16, 2010

Summer is not even over - but the weather seems to be turning cold already *sigh*.  Winter is long here in Canada and sometimes it can get real cold - we have electric heat all over the house - and during winter the power bill can KILL!  i kid you not when i tell you that.  The first year in our new home - we had to put french door to close up our tv room and from the kitchen because if we didn’t do that - in order to heat up the tv room - we needed to heat up the kitchen too.

So every year I think of ways to save on our power bill - and I’ve been thinking of an electric blanket for many years now.  The spouse’s parents are using it - and have been for a long, long time - but I am worried about getting fried under the blankie.  What is your take on it?  i saw a sale on for only $59.95 for the above blankie and want to try it.  It is said to have auto savings - and any savings is good - afterall, we don’t need to have the whole room all heated up - plus - it gets really hot in the morning.  It turns off after 10 hrs - so no one sleeps more than that eh.  So this winter - i’m going to try it - if anyone has any suggestion about the electic blanket - drop me a comment eh. I’m a newbie!

Google Adsense Ban

By jewelminer | August 14, 2010

Yesterday, i read on Pro-blogger’s blog about how repeat visitors is worth more with adsense earning and how his repeat visitors are clicking more on the adsense.  The reason why i am writing about it is - because a friend had just written to say that she was banned from google adsense and she don’t think she had violated any rules.  We all know that appealing to google - is not going to work - nobody had any success - so if her repeat visitors are the only ones clicking - does that mean it was of no value to the advertisers?  it sure don’t make sense to me at all - but google won’t tell you how you violated the rules so unless you are not making any money - you will be quite safe - hahah!!  is there any way to make money online besides using google adsense?  yes - of course - but since google is the biggest name on the internet - we all flock for it first - only to be disappointed that they got banned within the first month.  So pray tell someone.

Prank Calls On Live Radio

By jewelminer | August 11, 2010

Listen to the talk show - and you will know what i mean - it’s a horror !!  some said that this is just a hoax but others said this is for real.  I don’t know if it is or not - but if i were the wife - i would definitely be upset to find my spouse cheating on me on live radio.  What is your take on it?

Cool Design Air Purifier

By jewelminer | August 8, 2010

The spouse said that having an air purifier is as important as wearing running shorts when doing your exercises or jogging but I told him I don’t want a bulky air purifier - its design has gotta fit with my home decor.  Just like buying a running shorts - it has to fit the person and the purpose - you can’t wear just any shorts for a baseball game  - nor can you wear a  football jersey for a picnic - so he probably gets the picture.

The above is a Conway Air Purifier found on Apartment Therapy and it is pretty stylish as you can see - sleek and slim and it does well as an air purifier.  What i like best about it?  the leather cover of course! fits in so well with my tv room decor!  It has a dust and gas sensor for optimal air purification and constant monitoring of bacteria in the air. It also has an display indicator of air quality that updates constantly to keep you informed of what’s going on.  How much is it?  $599 !  expensive but definitely a good investment.
